Dr Ákos Koller, Professor Emeritus of the Hungarian University of Sports Sciences (HUSS) and his research team are investigating what Covid-19 does to the brains of physically active and inactive people. Hungarian news portal index.hu cites that their research may answer the question whether there is a link between fitness, exercise and the duration or severity of symptoms.

The Research Center for Molecular Exercise Science, led by Dr. Zsolt Radák, has successfully submitted a grant application to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS) post-Covid 2021-28 Grants Scheme.

Currently (as of March 3, 2021), the WHO has registered 114.5 million infections and nearly 2.54 million deaths associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection (COVID-19) worldwide. The number of Hungarian fatalities of the epidemic is over 15,000. At the current and expected rate of active immunization, even without mutants that may escape the vaccine induced adaptive immune response, to immunize 60% of pandemic populations will take several months.

The Recreation Department at the University of Physical Education (UPE) does it best to accommodate to the everchanging epidemiological situation and it suggests that despite the new circumstances, we should not neglect daily exercise.

Following the opening ceremony on Wednesday, the International University Sports Federation’s (FISU) first virtual World Forum continued on Thursday with a number of interesting programmes including parallels, roundtable discussions and the eSport championships.

The 2020/2021 spring semester was a big challenge for all students. The events gradually affected the international students on the UPE Campus, who faced many difficulties during this period.

Lajos Mocsai PhD. Prof. h. c., Rector of the University of Physical Education has addressed an open letter to the university’s students as well as all young Hungarians and fellow citizens. The excellent teacher and sports expert shared his thoughts on the common responsibility of preventing the pandemic, the human moral and attitude as well as the up-to-dateness of the institution’s philosophy.
