Jury members for the 2020 FISU World Forum Student Project selected

As known, one of the most exciting part of the 2020 FISU World Forum to be staged online between 12th and 14th August is the Student Project. Participants, aided by FISU Education Committee members, will be invited to develop a project in different topics. Registration for the project ended on 31st July and students already started on the work. Former University of Physical Education (UPE) student and current FISU Student Ambassador Sabina D’Ess has also been selected as a jury member.

„I felt honoured and it took me by surprise when Dr. Tamás Sterbenz, Vice-Rector of UPE and Dániel Mezei, coordinator of the Organising Committee asked me to be a member of the jury that evaluates the outputs of the Student Project. Although the task is new to me, I am looking forward to it just as any other challenge”, she explained.

Having already participated in 2018 Forum, Sabina D’Ess knows both the event and the Student Project very well. Few know that as an appreciation of the active role she played at the 2018 FISU World Forum in Krasnoyarks, Russia, she was invited to participate in the FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy in 2019.

“I remember how busy our schedule was at the 2018 FISU World Forum. We had been taking part at plenary sessions and workshops all day long, and we started upon the Student Project after dinner. We often finished work late at night. We worked in small groups in which all continents were equally represented. Our project focussed on ‘Increasing volunteering in sport’. Although the jury quite liked it and found it smart and creative, an other project was awarded the first prize”, recalls Sabina D’Ess.

She knows acting as a jury requires a different approach. Some important aspects that the jury members need to keep in mind is to what extent the students’ concept matches the topic, what the creative and innovative elements of the project work are, and how the concept can be implemented.

It is an interesting challenge that the evaluators will find out the details of the final concepts only on the closing day of the Forum when students present their work.

“Although participants have to submit their project one day before the Forum ends, jury members can see the very last version only on the last day. It is quite frequent that students add small modifications to their concept in the very last minute”, she revealed.
