Chinese Nanjing Sport Institute pays visit to HUSS

Interest from Chinese sports universities in Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) shows no sign of fading; this time Nanjing Sport Institute has indicated that it is considering a long-term partnership with the Hungarian university.

The interest of Chinese universities and sports institutions in HUSS and its programmes remains unbroken. At least this is suggested by the fact that, within a short period, another Chinese institution, this time Nanjing Sport Institute, founded in 1956 and currently enrolling 7,000 students, has expressed a desire to establish a long-term cooperation with HUSS.

The visiting delegation, led by Wu Bingcheng, was received on 5 December in the rector’s meeting room by Dr Csaba Ökrös, Vice-Rector for General Affairs. As learned from the guests, the Chinese sports institute handles sport, science, and education in an integrated manner. On the one hand, it focuses on the training of elite athletes; on the other, it conducts educational and research activities in the fields of sports science, physical education, sport health, training methodology, and sport management.

Hearing this immediately caught the host’s attention, as the mission and goals of the Chinese institution and HUSS are strikingly similar. Both strive to place equal, or nearly equal, emphasis on sport, elite sport, and sports science.

Egyeztetesek a Nancsing Sportintezettel

The Nanjing Sport Institute resembles HUSS in other respects as well, boasting impressive achievements in elite sport: it has 18 Olympic and more than 120 world champion students who have excelled in fencing, swimming, gymnastics, artistic swimming, tennis, table tennis, and badminton.

At the Nanjing institute, Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes are currently offered in Chinese, and they are now aiming to establish their own doctoral school. This is where HUSS may come into the picture: the highly enthusiastic Chinese side would like the university to support them with its academic expertise and experience in launching BA and MA programmes in English, as well as in starting their doctoral training. To this end, they would send PhD students and professors to HUSS for study visits.

In addition, the visitors would send students to HUSS’s sport management, coaching, and health science programmes, and they see great potential in having their students participate in HUSS’s most prestigious and internationally recognized programme, the International Coaching Course (ICC), supported by the Olympic Solidarity programme of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Furthermore, it was mentioned that HUSS could organize a separate coaching course in Hungarian success sports specifically for their students, should the Chinese side request it.
