A total of twenty-one international students received their diplomas at the closing ceremony of the International Coaching Course (ICC) held last Friday at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS).
Students from numerous countries completed their ten-week studies in the International Coaching Course (ICC) during the autumn semester. The ICC is the most prestigious international training programme of Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS), supported by the Olympic Solidarity (OS) programme of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
In addition to the graduating students, the event was attended by Professor Tamás Sterbenz, Rector of Hungarian University of Sports Science, Dr Csaba Ökrös, Vice-Rector for General Affairs, Denissza Blanár, Head of the university’s International Relations Directorate, as well as the instructors teaching in the coaching programme.
The ceremony began with a welcome speech given by Nóra Széles, International Training Coordinator.
She was followed by brief remarks from Tamás Sterbenz. The Rector said that the ICC graduates not only received proper coaching education over the past weeks, but also became ambassadors of the Olympic spirit of their home countries. Tamás Sterbenz emphasized that sports science foundations and a practical approach play a prominent role in the university’s coaching programme, which is why the diploma they have now earned is of great value.
Denissza Blanár pointed out that this ceremonial moment represents not only hard work and dedication, but also the courage with which the graduates gained lifelong experiences in a completely new environment, far from their home countries and loved ones. Denissza Blanár expressed her delight that the course participants had the chance to get to know Budapest and, to some extent, Hungary, and added that with their new diplomas they have now become part of the university’s alumni community.
The twenty-one international students earned certificates in four sports: basketball, judo, general conditioning and swimming. The top students of the semester were Laurent Mathieu Laguette (Mauritius) and Adley Bandeira (São Tomé and Príncipe) – both were specially congratulated and honoured by the university.
