Luca Ekler, supervisor of the Inclusive Sports Education Specialization at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF), won a gold medal at women’s long jump T38 category at the Paralympics in Paris, France.
"I'll be disappointed if I can’t defend my title in the long jump event at the Paralympics," Luca Ekler told us two weeks ago as she prepared for the Paralympics in Paris. Well, she won't be disappointed, because she won a gold medal in the long jump T38 category competition under unfavourable weather conditions on Thursday, thus defending her Paralympic title in this event.
The supervisor of the Inclusive Sports Education Specialization at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF) was in great shape for the event. She jumped 552 centimetres in the first set and her second attempt was even better, landing at 556 centimetres. Her rivals could not even come close, and the only question was the volume of margin she would win the event. She finally beat Germany's Nele Moos and Colombia's Tatiana Karen Palomeque Moreno.
"I had three goals in the long jump event: to beat the Paralympic and world records and to defend my Olympic title. Unfortunately, I only managed to do the last one, but I am proud of myself because it was difficult to jump under these weather conditions. I regret my foul jumps", said the 25-year-old world-class parathlete of TFSE.
It is important to mention that Luca Ekler is coached by László Szalma, an associate professor at TF, the two-time European indoor champion long jumper, who still holds the Hungarian long jump record, who won the "Coach of the Year for Athletes with Disabilities" award last year.
As already reported, Luca Ekler finished fifth in the 100m event and has yet to compete in the 400m event, the heat and final of which will be held in Paris on Friday and on Saturday, respectively.
