Hungarian-born German-American researcher, Professor Steve Horváth, creator of the Horvath Epigenetic Clock, received the honorary doctoral degree at Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) during the November 21 ceremony, highlighting the university’s international scientific recognition.
On November 21, Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) held its doctoral and honorary doctoral graduation ceremony in the Athenes Hall. Eleven new doctors received their degrees, and Professor Steve Horváth, the Hungarian-born German-American geneticist and biostatistician, was awarded an honorary doctoral title.
Professor Horváth, who teaches at the University of California, Los Angeles, is best known for developing the Horvath Epigenetic Clock, a highly precise molecular biomarker of aging. He has also made significant contributions to the field of weighted correlation network analysis. HUSS's Doctoral Council awarded him the honorary doctoral degree in recognition of his outstanding scientific work and international reputation.

During the ceremony, Professor Zsolt Radák, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovation Affairs at HUSS, praised Horváth, noting that his presence is not only an honor for the university but also a role model for the newly graduated doctors. In his speech, Professor Horváth emphasized the excellent educational and research opportunities at HUSS in the fields of sports science and sports medicine, and expressed special thanks for the growing emphasis on epigenetic and microbiome research within the doctoral programme.
The honorary doctoral ceremony was followed by the unveiling of a marble plaque, which, according to HUSS's tradition, commemorates the names of distinguished scholars. With this title, Horváth has become an honorary member of HUSS’s international scientific community and will represent the university as an ambassador worldwide.
