Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF) will celebrate its 100th anniversary in a truly memorable way, concluding its centenary celebrations in an elegant style. Scheduled for November 6, the TF100 Charity Ball promises to be a special event — not only for the university and its prestigious, likewise 100-year-old sports club, TFSE, but also for the broader Hungarian sports and higher education community.
While several key events in the centenary programme series of Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF) are still to come, the date of the closing celebration — the TF100 Charity Ball — has already been announced. The grand event is set to take place on November 6, almost exactly 100 years to the day since the university’s official founding. On this special occasion, attendees will not only pay tribute to the university itself, but also celebrate its historic and once again increasingly influential sports club, TFSE, which has played a significant role in Hungarian sports over the past century.
The event will be held at the university’s new and impressive sports hall called Dr. Jenő Koltai Sports Centre. In the days before the celebration, the venue will be completely transformed — with a large stage, LED screens, eye-catching decorations, a VIP reception area, and special lighting and sound effects to create a festive and exclusive atmosphere for the ball.
The official programme will begin at 6 p.m., featuring performances by prominent members of the university community and leading figures from the Hungarian sports world. In addition, star performers will also take the stage.
Alongside speeches, a four-course gala dinner, and the ceremonial TF100 cake, guests will be entertained by well-known performers, all of whom, with one exception, are either graduates of TF or have close ties to the university.
Performers include Tamás Hevesi, the band Midlife Crisis (featuring former TF musicians), as well as Ildikó Keresztes, Attila Nyerges, and János Karácsony, who will bring some of LGT’s (a famous Hungarian band of the 70s and 80s) greatest hits to the stage. The musical programme will conclude with a DJ set and dancing.
The TF100 Charity Ball will be a unique blend of elegance, community spirit, formal ceremony, and philanthropy. A significant portion of the ticket revenue will be used to support former university staff members in need.
The festive speeches and award ceremonies will be enriched by cultural and artistic performances: the audience can look forward to folk dance artists from the Hungarian University of Dance Arts, the renowned band of Sándor Csoóri Jr., and a performance by the TF Workshop. The awards will highlight prominent figures from both the past and present.
As part of the official programme, commemorative coins celebrating the 100th anniversary of TF will be presented. These limited-edition coins have been jointly created by Hungarian University of Sports Science and the Hungarian National Bank, which also recently celebrated its own centenary.
Distinguished guests of the evening include Dr Balázs Hankó, Minister of Culture and Innovation; Dr Ádám Schmidt, Secretary of State for Sports; Zsolt Gyulay, Olympic champion and President of the Hungarian Olympic Committee; the leadership of TF as well as numerous prominent figures from Hungarian sports and sports organizations, Olympic champions, members of the university’s Masters Club, renowned past and current students and faculty, and, of course, the outstanding TD’s staff.
The goal of the evening is to honour, in a fitting manner, all those who have contributed to the university’s reputation and success over the past hundred years, including teachers, athletes, researchers, and students alike. The TF100 Charity Ball is thus not just an event, but a shared moment of remembrance and celebration.
