Gergely Csurilla, a researcher at the Centre for Sport Economics and Decision Sciences at the Hungarian University of Sports Sciences (HUSS), has been selected as one of the top three finalists in the New Researcher Award competition at the EASM2025 conference, with his academic paper.
The European Association for Sport Management (EASM)’s annual conference — held this year at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) and concluding on Friday — features the New Researcher Award (NRA) as one of its key highlights. The award is organized by the European Sport Management Quarterly (ESMQ) and sponsored by Routledge Journals. It recognizes outstanding, original, and unpublished theoretical or conceptual contributions in the field of sport management.
The award is open to researchers who are nearing the completion of their PhD or who have completed their degree within the last three years. Submissions must be in English, and the competition includes a three-round evaluation process, culminating in the selection of the winner.
Gergely Csurilla entered the competition with his research titled “False Verdicts, Real Losses: The Counterfactual Impact of Calciopoli’s Unfair Punishments” on Thursday, he presented his work to the jury and audience. The quality of his presentation played a key role in his selection as one of the top three finalists in the category.
The winner will be announced during the closing ceremony on Friday evening.
