German Sport University Cologne hosts HUSS representatives

HUSS Rector Professor Tamás Sterbenz and Vice-Rector Dr Csaba Ökrös visited the world-renowned German Sport University Cologne recently, where they discussed several key issues including the state of sports science with their host, Rector Ansgar Thiel.

Since 2018, Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) has been building a partnership with the world-renowned German Sport University Cologne. The latest milestone in this cooperation was the recent visit to Cologne by Rector Professor Tamás Sterbenz and Vice-Rector Dr Csaba Ökrös, during which they held discussions on several key issues with their host, Rector Ansgar Thiel.

Among other topics, the parties explored what distinguishes an independent sport university, as well as how science can contribute to the development of sport and to raising awareness of a healthier lifestyle.

During his stay, Csaba Ökrös attended last weekend’s German Handball Cup final, while Tamás Sterbenz met with Professor Marcus Raab, who has supported HUSS through numerous publications in the field of decision theory.

Ansgar Thiel invited HUSS to the upcoming 2026 Summit of the Global Sport University Network, considered a relatively new initiative, which will be held in Cologne this October. The annual conference brings together academic representatives from all areas related to sports science on a common platform.

On April 15, the spring course of the International Coaching Course (ICC) at Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) officially began with a ceremonial opening. The organizers made the event memorable with a quiz game and a dinner featuring international cuisine.
