Paralympics: Luca Ekler finishes fifth in 100m race

Luca Ekler, Supervisor of the university’s Inclusive Sports Instructor Specialist Training Programme, finished 5th in the women’s 100m race at the Paris 2024 Summer Paralimpic Games.

Last Saturday evening saw the final of the women’s 100m race in the T38 category at the Paris 2024 Summer Paralimpics. Luca Ekler, Supervisor of the Hungarian University of Sport Science’s Inclusive Sports Instructor Specialist Training Programme, qualified for the final with the fourth best time, finishing in fifth place with a time of 12.78. The race was won by Colombia's Karen Palomeque, who set a new world record (12.26).

"I felt that my legs were a bit stiffer when we did a test start, although my warm-up went well, but not my start. My coach, László Szalma, and I had worked a lot on this in recent years. I was a bit surprised that the Australian girl on my right was also very good, it had never happened before, in the last 30 meters I lost my balance a bit and she got in front of me. My competitors really got better in my category. Now it was not realistic to win a medal, but I could have finished fourth, like in Tokyo. The time result could have been better, but that's it for now", said Luca.

Luca Ekler will compete in two other events in Paris, including long jump on 5 September and the 400m race on 6 September, with the final taking place the following day.
