Kayaker Noémi Pupp, a student of the BA coaching course at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF), won two medals at the Paris Olympics.
What a year it has been so far! Kayaker Noémi Pupp won a gold medal both in the women’s K-2 and K-4 event at the European Championships in Szeged, and at the Paris Olympics, she won bronze in the same two events, competing brilliantly in both finals.
"I was in the same boat with Tamara Csipes, Dorka Gazsó and Sara Fojt in the K-4 and with Sara Fojt in K-2. I can safely say that we did outstanding in both events", said the 26-year-old kayaker happily, who is studying at the BA coaching programme at TF.” There was not the slightest pressure on us, because we felt the power in the heats, we had good courses and we knew that if we gave our best we would get the result. I said to Sari before the heats that the most important race would be the semi-final, because if we make it to the final, anything could happen."
She and Sara Fojt won a wonderful bronze medal, although when they crossed the finish line, it was not clear which place they finished at. After a long wait, the official result was announced: a tie for third place.
For the Pupp family, the Paris Olympics was particularly memorable, because Noémi's sister Réka finished fifth in the artistic gymnastics. She competed in the first week of the Games, and Noémi admits being a little disappointed, but she waited for her sister's performance, cheering on the kayak races with her parents.
"Unfortunately, the big family celebration hasn't taken place yet, because our parents are back to work, and my sister is also busy. However, we will organise a get-together party as soon as possible. I don't even need to prepare a special menu, because everyone knows that poppy cake is my favourite, and of course it is a must now after the Olympic Games."
Noémi has decided to continue her studies at the university.
"The competition season coincides with the exam period, I had to prepare for the European Championships and the Games in Paris. The Olympics have been sensational, it's time to get myself together at TF because by the time the next big moment arrives, I want to have a diploma.”
