Student of the Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF), swimming star Nándor Németh gave one of the best performances of the Hungarian team at the Paris Olympics.
Hungarian swimmer Nándor Németh, competing in the men’s 100m freestyle, the most popular swimming event in the world, finished fourth in the Paris Olympics with a magnificent performance, missing the podium by one hundredth of a second and the silver medal by two hundredths of a second.
The 24-year-old swimmer, who is currently attending the Hungarian University of Sports Science’s (TF) BA coaching course, charmed us not only with his performance and attitude, but also with his post-race statements.
"Obviously the thought of how close I was to the bronze end even the silver medal crossed my mind. It hurt, of course, even if I didn't show it to the camera," Nándor Németh said. “It was a flawless swim, I don’t think have made any mistakes, three of my opponents simply performed better than me."
There is a lot of work behind his success.
"Obviously there's a lot of sacrifice, but that's the way sport is: people who have gone to the Olympics, for example, can say the same for themselves, whatever sport they play. I was eight when I first competed in swimming, I know what I'm talking about. As for my Olympic preparation, well, maybe the difference was the number of training camps and the fact that I was trying to use the experience I had gained in recent years in Paris. What's next? I'm definitely aiming for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and if I do well there, I might even participate in the 2032 Games in Australia, but that is to be decided later.”
Speaking about the future, Nándor Németh has been less active at TF in the past six months because of the busy competition schedule, however, it is time to catch up with his studies.
"Studying relaxes my brain and I can get away from the monotony of swimming, and it can also boost my swimming performance, so I will keep it in mind."
