Ákos Koller receives Eugene M. Landis Research Award for 2023

Ákos Koller, Professor Emeritus of the Hungarian University of Sports Science, has received the Eugene M. Landis Research Award in Rhode Island, USA.

As reported in the spring, Ákos Koller, Professor Emeritus of the Hungarian University of Sports Science, received a great recognition this year: for his outstanding research in the field of microcirculation. He was awarded the Eugene M. Landis Prize of the Microcirculatory Society of the USA, which was founded in 1969 to recognize researchers in the field of microcirculation.

In accepting the award last week at the annual conference in Rhode Island, USA, Koller quoted the world-famous American writer and poet Maya Angelou, or more precisely what she learned from her mother: „When you learn, teach; when you receive, give. Well, that's the spirit in which I tried to research and that's what I tried to teach my students."

The nominee for the award, named after Eugene M. Landis, must be a member of the Microcirculatory Society who is an active researcher or has published and is conducting outstanding research in the field of microcirculation. Nomination for the award requires a letter of support describing the nominee's most significant work and a current curriculum vitae listing the nominee's top 10 publications from the past 10 years. The award is presented at the annual meeting of the Microcirculatory Society and the recipient is invited to give a presentation on his/her professional and research career. The recipient's presentation is published as a featured manuscript in the Society's official journal, Microcirculation.

When he was younger, Ákos Koller was a member of the OSC water polo team and a multiple Hungarian champion, as well as a member of the youth and adult national teams. As he said, he owes everything to sport.
