ICC graduation ceremony held at HUSS

A total of 19 international students in four sports specialisations received their diplomas at the International Coaching Course (ICC) graduation ceremony held at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) last Friday.

Students from several countries finished their 10-week course as part of their International Coaching Course (ICC) spring semester. ICC, which is the Hungarian University of Sports Science’s (HUSS) most acknowledged programme for international students, is run at HUSS in cooperation with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Olympic Solidarity programme (OS).

The nineteen students graduated in four sports specialisations: football, tennis, basketball and general conditioning.

In addition to the students and their teachers, the graduation ceremony was attended by OS’s Programme Manager Silvia Lucciarini, HUSS’s rector Professor Tamás Sterbenz and International Relations (IRC) Head Denissa Blanár.

Tamás Sterbenz pointed out that the university is very proud of the programme because it is considered as one of the best coaching educational centres in the world.

“The university is committed to distribute scientific knowledge, provide a profound base for coaching, and share practical experience of the representatives of Hungarian sport. The university has contributed countless memorable results in different sporting events, educated more than 150 Hungarian Olympic Champions, and most importantly, their coaches”, emphasized the rector. 

Silvia Lucciarini revealed that the Olympic Solidarity feel very privileged to have worked with the university for more than 20 years. Sha also added that HUSS is not only a centre for knowledge but a trusted partner in the development of sport, and the training of coaches.

„I encourage everyone to wear this diploma with pride. Share what you have learned, make it grow, be curious and committed. Sports need you”, she said.

Denissa Blanár expressed that for most of the students this was the first time that they had spent a considerable time away from their home countries. She added that Budapest will not only be a city for them in the future, but ICC students will consider it as their second home.

The best student award of the course was awarded to Alexey Shapurin from Kazakhstan, who graduated in football.

The event concluded with informal conversations and a festive dinner.
