In the first days of February, colleagues of the Department of Combat Sports of the Hungarian University of Sports Science participated in a study trip to Tokyo as part of the Budo project financed by the Ministry of Defense's State Secretariat for Sports.
The teachers of Combat Sports have returned from an eventful and program-packed visit from Japan. As part of the Budo project, they visited Kodokan, which is considered the stronghold of judo, as well as three universities that have agreements with our university and several high schools. In addition, they were received by the president and secretary general of the Japan Karate Federation as well as the Japanese sports minister.
During their useful study trip, they were able to gain insight into the situation of Budo sports within the entire Japanese education system from elementary school to university. During their stay, they participated in ten meetings, during which the Japanese partners spoke highly of the outstanding work carried out by the Hungarian side in the field of Budo.
The Japanese experts spoke with great appreciation about both the judo and karate education taking place at our university, as well as the changes related to Budo sports in the Physical Education and Sports Literacy section of the 2020 National Curriculum. Our colleagues were highly satisfied to observe that the efforts they have made in the field of Budo are also recognized and valued in Japan.
