Biomechanics: how to enhance athlete performance?

Exciting questions will be answered at the 2nd Biomechanics in Sport and Ageing Symposium: Artificial Intelligence (AI) symposium to be held at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF) on 16 October.

It is definitely worth visiting the Athens lecture hall on Wednesday, 16 October, where a presentation will focus on practical health assessments that can be used to assess the functional status of the patient more accurately than before, to develop a rehabilitation programme tailored to the individual and to get a clearer picture of the prognosis of the disease. Annamária Péter, research fellow at the Department of Kinesiology, will be one of the chairs of the session of this exciting symposium, and she will give us an insight into the areas of sport where biomechanics can be most useful.

"Biomechanical assessments gather information about an athlete's current performance and can be used to improve their performance on an individual level. In other words, there is a strong emphasis on continuous individual-specific biomechanical monitoring. We can now estimate quite accurately how much load a particular joint is subjected to in a given movement, and what happens if the athlete performs the same movement slightly differently. We can also estimate the same at the muscle level. This information is also useful for injury prevention. The continuous monitoring of athletes is a major help in rehabilitation and ageing," said Annamária Péter.

The researcher added that based on her experience, biomechanics is not only popular abroad, but is developing at an incredible pace, and in order to be an active part of this development, it is of utmost importance to cultivate and develop international cooperation and relations.

"This is what we strive for at the Department of Kinesiology, and we guide the young biomechanics who join us in this spirit. This is how we can remain innovative in both research and teaching. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of the International Relations Centre, especially Gabriella Sztojalovszky and Györgyi Koppa, for their continuous support, because without them we could not do it. The students who join our research groups are enthusiastic and interested, and the constant challenges they face give them great opportunities in life.
