World Athletics Championships volunteers in action

On 19 August, the most eagerly awaited event of the year, the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest officially began. The first day's evening programme kicked off with a grand opening, where Youhuu, the event's mascot, once again entertained the crowd.

It has been already reported that volunteers of the Volunteer Programme, coordinated by the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) started their work in early August in the run-up to the event. The initial enthusiasm has not waned since then.

More than 2,500 volunteers started or continued their involvement in the event at the same time as the competition began.

Volunteers can be found in almost all areas, helping the judges along the course, informing the athletes, providing water for the participants, assisting spectators with any questions, helping the medical team and media professionals.

Outside the stadium, a large number of volunteers are also available to meet competitors and visitors alike, helping with information, accreditation and transport of teams and guests in hotels, and providing information at information points in railway stations and hubs around the city, helping spectators in the Fanzone on Elisabeth Square.

Our volunteers are easily recognisable not only by their orange T-shirts, but also by their big smiles and boundless enthusiasm.
