Professor Ákos Koller, Chair of the Scientific Council of Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) and researcher at the Institute of Sport Physiology attended an international sports science conference with the aim of strengthened professional ties between Hungary and Thailand.
From June 17 to 22 2025, Bangkok hosted the 13th International Conference on Sports and Exercise Science & Annual Meeting of the Sports Medicine Association of Thailand (ICSES & SMAT 2025). The event, organized by Mahidol University, focussed on merging sports science and medicine in preparation for the Southeast Asian Games. Hungary was represented by Professor Ákos Koller, researcher at Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS), Chair of the Scientific Council, who was also invited to present his latest findings.
The conference welcomed nearly 400 participants from across Asia and beyond. Its theme – “Bridging Sports Science and Medicine for SEA Games Success” – emphasized the growing collaboration between scientific and medical disciplines in athletic preparation and performance.
Ákos Koller gave a 45-minute lecture titled “Exercise-induced adaptations of the coronary vasculature: physiological, cellular, and molecular mechanisms.” His presentation detailed how regular physical activity positively influences the coronary vascular system at multiple biological levels, highlighting the role of exercise in cardiovascular health.
Beyond scientific exchange, the conference served as a platform for strengthening international cooperation. Koller’s visit was supported by Dr Parunchaya Jamkrajang, Deputy Dean for Research and International Relations at Mahidol University’s College of Sports Science and Technology. His presence in Bangkok reinforced the collaborative relationship between the two universities, with promising prospects for joint research and educational programs.
During his stay, Koller was also hosted for a working lunch by Dr Sándor Sipos, the Hungarian Ambassador to Thailand. They discussed opportunities for deepening institutional ties between Hungarian and Thai academic institutions.
“This journey helped foster a stronger scientific relationship between Hungary and Thailand, opening the door to future collaborative research initiatives,” Koller concluded.
