The Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) hosted a prestigious international scientific event, the 36th Forum of the European Physical Education Association at the end of March.
The 36th EUPEA Forum Meeting and General Assembly were held at Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS), organized jointly by the Hungarian School Sport Federation (MDSZ) and the European Physical Education Association (EUPEA). The main topics of the event were the state of physical education and the implementation of quality school sports.
The event, held from March 27 to 30, brought together nearly 70 experts from 30 European countries. The program was opened by Avelino Azevedo, President of EUPEA, Dr Dániel Erdős, Executive Director of MDSZ, and Dr Csaba Ökrös, HUSS’s Vice-Rector. The leaders identified strengthening the physical education and school sports system and enhancing the prestige of physical education teachers as common goals, emphasizing the importance of teacher training as part of this effort.
As part of the four-day program, a dedicated session showcased best practices from the European School Sport Day, which currently engages nearly 2.5 million students annually across 41 participating countries.
In the morning session, Professor Gregor Jurak from the University of Ljubljana and Dr Tamás Csányi, Head of the Department of Physical Education Theory and Teaching Methodology at HUSS, and a member of the EUPEA executive board, presented the results of the FitBack project. This initiative focuses on monitoring the fitness levels of school-age students and providing a pedagogical framework for fitness assessment. Experts also introduced best practices and results from various other European projects aimed at promoting youth physical activity and strengthening the role of physical education and sports in schools.
On Saturday, the delegation toured the campus infrastructure and learned about the university’s Hungarian and English-language training programs to lay the foundation for future international collaborations.
