Dr. Csaba Ökrös, the Vice-Rector of the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) recently visited Kuwait at the invitation of András Szabó, Ambassador of Hungary to Kuwait. The purpose of the brief visit was to discuss several important cooperation opportunities concerning the sports sector of both countries.
A true sports week took place recently at the Hungarian Embassy in Kuwait. The event began with the official opening of an exhibition about Hungarian coaches, during which several Hungarian coaches who have made lasting contributions in Kuwait over nearly 60 years were introduced.
One of the reasons for Dr Csaba Ökrös' visit was that some of our university’s former and current distinguished professors were among those featured in the exhibition including József Szécsényi, Ágoston Schulek, Béla Fekete, József Tihanyi, László Kovács and Ákos Tóth. The exhibition was honoured by the presence of Marius Vizer, President of the International Judo Federation, and Tibor Kozsla, who has roots at the university. The exhibition took place on February 2, 2025, at the Hungarian Ambassador’s residence in Kuwait.
As part of the program series, several productive meetings were held with the aim of promoting and developing closer cooperation between the two countries in the field of sports. The parties visited the Kuwait Olympic Committee, where they participated in an official meeting with Mubarak Faisal Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Vice President of the Kuwait Olympic Committee. Meetings with representatives of the Kuwait Swimming Association, Kuwait Sports Authority, Kuwait sport clubs, Kuwait Fencing Association and Burgan Fencing Club were held.
As a result of the discussions, the parties agreed that Kuwait will welcome graduating talented coaches, sports professionals, and physical education teachers from our university, as the current values of Hungarian sports and the successful historical collaborations provide a guarantee that Kuwait's sports life will once again thrive. The university is looking forward to welcoming Kuwaiti professionals who wish to expand their current knowledge through HUSS’s foreign language programmes.
