EU collection established at TF under the Jean Monnet project

An extended collection of the European Union’s sport policy documents was handed over to the Hungarian University of Sports Science’s (TF) library.

On 27 May, Dr Péter Farkas, TF’s associate professor, manager of the Jean Monnet project modules, and Judit Lukácsné Varga, Director of the Library and Archives, presented the collection, which was expanded with EU sport policy documents.

"The aim of the project is to expand the library's stock on the European Union, which will allow us to provide professional resources in both English and Hungarian for curricular and extra-curricular preparation or research tasks", said Péter Farkas.

The name chosen for the collection is "The EU Corner" Resource Center. Hundreds of documents have been published since the Lisbon Treaty took effect on 1 December 2009, when the EU acquired soft competence in the field of sport. Dr Judit Farkas presented the three main issues (social impact of sport, economic impact of sport and organisation of sport) in a short case study, and what she called the European dimensions of sport. It is almost impossible to understand and research EU sport policy without this knowledge.

The event and the literature extension were organised with the support of the European Union within the framework of the Jean Monnet Programme, which promotes education and research in European integration studies.
