Accepting the invitation of the Mayor of Borsa, staff members from several departments of the Hungarian University of Sports Science, including lecturers of the Department of Social Sciences, visited Transylvania recently.
Ion-Sorin Timis, the mayor of Borsa located in the Maramures region of Transylvania, visited the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) last December. The mayor invited HUSS students and staff to the ski resort of the town to do some winter sports activities.
Accepting the invitation, several members of the Department of Social Sciences, the Department of Sport Law, the Department of Psychology and Sport Psychology, the Department of Sport Management and Alumni members travelled to Transylvania for a long weekend. The tout was organised by the Department of Social Sciences.
"Fifteen of us travelled to Borsa. Our group was led by Dr Katalin Szikora, who not only coordinated the details of the tour with our hosts, but also organised a cultural programme for the participants," says Dr habil Andrea Gál, head of the department. “For example, we stopped in Szaplonca and walked around the famous Happy Cemetery, and on the way back we visited the birthplace of one of the most successful coaches in Hungarian fencing, Dr Béla Bay in Szinérváralja. In Borsa, we were greeted by a real winter atmosphere and made ourselves at home in the Medve Motel run by a Hungarian couple. Half of the team went skiing or sledging, while the others hiked in the mountain or relaxed at the accommodation. But the trip also had a formal programme, as the Mayor Ion-Sorin Timis welcomed us at his office and spent more than an hour talking to us about further opportunities for networking. We were then invited to a lunch. Our host made a unique gesture by giving us all a gift of a two-day pass for the gondola lift which we could use in the evening on the floodlit slopes. After dinner, we had a quiz, played table tennis, chatted and had a great time. We would love to return next year and would be delighted if other colleagues could join us. Thanks to the university for the free use of the minibus and to Ferenc Varga for driving us back home safely."
