Professor Tibor Hortobágyi, researcher at the Department of Kinesiology of the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS), has published an article in the world’s leading sports medicine journal with the highest impact factor (18.5).
The title of the paper published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJMS) by the research professor as well as 21 researchers from 10 countries is "The potential role of cross-education in early-stage rehabilitation after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLr)".
The editorial responds to a previous review also published in BJMS (doi:10.1136/BJSPORTS-2022-106158). That review suggested, incorrectly and ignoring key experimental evidence, that counter-side training is not effective for ACLr.
Professor Hortobágyi and Dr Márk Váczi (Director at the University of Pécs, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Institute of Sports Science and Physical Education) jointly supervise the research of doctoral student Leila Bogdán. This experiment investigates the effects of counter-sided electrical muscle stimulation and its brain mechanisms during ACLr.
Professor Tibor Hortobágyi's articles on the counter-side process can be found here.
