HUSS student Lili Vasvári participates in International Olympic Academy seminar

The Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) was represented by Lili Vasvári at the event held in Olympia, Greece.

The 63rd International Olympic Academy seminar held in the second part of June focussed on olympic education. A total of 121 delegates from 71 nations attended the seminar for young Olympic ambassadors in Olympia, Greece. Hungary was represented by Lili Vasvári, a volunteer of the Hungarian Olympic Academy and a student of the Hungarian University of Sports Science.

In the past few years Lili volunteered several times to support the Hungarian Olympic Committee and the Hungarian Olympic Academy. The topic and the seminar were quite familiar to her, as she already participated in the online session three years ago during the pandemic. During the almost two-week event, she had the opportunity to build international sports relations, learn about the sporting life and culture of other countries and present the work of the Hungarian Olympic Academy.

"It was an incredible feeling to finally be present in person at the site of the ancient games. It was particularly moving to meet people we had met online three years ago and have kept in touch with ever since. Almost every minute of our time was scheduled, starting with a morning of exercise before breakfast and working on our tasks in small teams after the morning lectures. After work, we all went to our chosen workshop activity, and we could also explore other cultures such as poetry, dance or music. Here too, at the end of the programme, we had to create a product related to Olympism at some level. We dancers, for example, danced the traditional Greek sirtaki in five rounds, dressed in the colours of the five rings. We visited the tomb of Baron Coubertin, ran with the flame and the flag of the International Olympic Academy, took part in the Olympic Day Run in Olympia. Sometimes we also had the opportunity to take a few minutes to showcase our own culture, and the Olympians who took part in the programme talked about their experiences at the five Olympic Games. It is important to note that from what I have heard, our country has a very high standard of physical education, because while we have five physical education classes a week for children, in other countries, I have heard, we have only one a week. Of course, in the middle of the programme we had half a day off when we went to the beach together, and on our last day we had the afternoon free after the closing ceremony, but everyone had such close friendships that we said goodbye with a sore heart. We are already planning the next meeting here in Budapest," summarised Lili Vasvári.
