A 10-week long international coaching program in non-Olympic sport disciplines ‘International Training Center’suited for Federations and other relevant partnerships.

Structure of Program:

The International Training Center provides high-calibre theoretical education tailored for coaches and sport organizations worldwide. Our program offers two distinct options to accommodate varying program structures.

  • Option 1 presents an immersive on campus classroom experience featuring the esteemed International Coaching Course (ICC) spanning 10 weeks across 12 subjects, HUSS flagship program for decades in cooperation with Olympic Solidarity (OS). Participants of the International Training Center (ITC) would significantly benefit from aligning their interests with both ICC and ITC initiatives. The duration of the program is 10 weeks, on campus at Budapest, Hungary. Two times a year, spring, and autumn, integrated into ICC. The specific training dates are to be settled by HUSS.
  • Option 2 and 3 offer a more concentrated curriculum, focusing on 5 core subjects selected from the comprehensive array covered in the on-campus program.
    • Option 2 is to feature an on-campus 5 core subjects education program, exact dates are determined by HUSS, operating parallelly with other international coaching programs.
    • Option 3 offers the 5-core subject education program through our online education platform using Microsoft Teams infrastructure, ensuring a robust and accessible learning environment.

Certificate: HUSS will provide a Certificate of Completion certifying the number of hours students attended lectures and the topics covered.

Prerequisites of Participation: Applicants must possess a coaching background spanning with the minimum of 3 years of experience in the respected sports disciplines with. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the English language, effectively commanding it throughout the program.

Core Theoretical Subjects Offered by HUSS: At HUSS, we offer core theoretical subjects in collaboration with top international sports federations like World Aquatics, International Fencing Federation, International Judo Federation, and International Canoe Federation. Our future partner federation is to select five core subjects from our wide range of offerings for online learning, based on feedback and quality assurance from these federations and their national counterparts.

ICC COURSE CONTENTS

By choosing ICC, you are about the jump into the next chapter of your coaching career which leads you to a comprehensive tailor-cut sports scientific education program, which you, your NF or even NOC will benefit from long term – both in training and in physical education.

INTRODUCTION

The ICC study course at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) is a complex education program where both science and sports play a central role in the program.

When applying you will choose a specialisation of your expertise in which we provide you with in-depth knowledge of the specific theory and methodology.

The 10-week intensive on-campus course fit into the program of ICC is meticulously designed to enhance coaches' knowledge and skills in theoretical, technical, and practical aspects of coaching.

The program includes 100 theoretical contact classes in 12 subjects on-site alongside with 100 practical teaching hours led by the federation’s own professionals.

During your ICC study, we will provide you with scientifically based knowledge and training-methodical expertise. Both are designed to enable you to:

  • train and guide athletes and teams appropriately to their age in the selected sport specialisation, respectively to prepare athletes physically and mentally.
  • apply the acquired and expanded scientific knowledge as well as the methodological repertoire in training constructively, also under varying conditions.
  • identify developmental tendencies and consider them respectively in the implementation of your training process.

LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION

The International Coaching Course (ICC) program is taught and run exclusively in English. Participants are expected to communicate at a reasonable level (minimum B2). It is the responsibility of the applicant to demonstrate their language proficiency in both verbal and written forms as to be able to comprehend learning materials and actively participate in the classes and programs.

B2 level equivalent scores of internationally accepted language exams:

  • IELTS: 5.5-6.0
  • TOEFL: 72-94
  • Cambridge English Scale: 160-179

It is the responsibility of the applicant and their National Federation to guarantee the applicant’s English language proficiency. HUSS reserves the right to invite and conduct interviews via Skype or Video Conference system in English in selected cases.

HUSS, traditionally called "TF", is the proud home of numerous Olympic champions, great sports coaches, educators and recreation experts. FIE Fencing Intensive International Coach Program

Program Structure and AimFIE logo

The newly tailor-designed Fencing Intensive “International Coach” Program (epée, foil and sabre; all the 3 disciplines) by the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS, former TF) is designed to train and educate coaches from around the world. The program attempts to promote and develop excellence in coaching fencing. The program provides coaches with a systematic way to improve their knowledge, skills, and competencies in theoretical, technical, and practical aspects of coaching.

Its combined structure includes a 3-month education of theory subjects at HUSS and an on-site coaching clinique practical program. This development in the structure and the technical system makes it possible for the expected participants to get involved in traditional classroom teaching & learning setting on a full-time base.

Program Content

The Fencing Intensive International Coach Program content in detail is designed selected to meet the needs of coaches working with competitive athletes at national level as well as with podium level high performance athletes of elite sport on the international stage.

Theoretical Modules

The curriculum of the theoretical modules of Fencing Intensive International Coach Program deals with the art and science of coaching with relevant specifications to modern Fencing sport.

The content of the theory modules includes the following ‘core subjects’ in accordance with FIE initiatives and feedback from NFs worldwide:

  • Sport Physiology
  • Training Theory and Methodology
  • Sport Psychology
  • Biomechanics
  • Sport Pedagogy

Practical Modules

The Fencing Intensive International Coach Program includes classroom instruction, sport-specific presentations and practical activities also coaching information pertaining to competition events in Fencing sport, applying coaching principles, skills, drills, training methods, strategy and tactics, error detection analysis and correction from our internationally recognized instructors.

The modules furthermore involve actual coaching experience, practical lessons, and workshops, where participants have a chance to discuss experience with high-skilled instructors and former Olympians. The practical and technical parts of the Fencing Intensive International Coach Program also contain home assignments and independent study.

The content of the practical modules includes the following subjects:

  • Observation and competition analysis
  • Teaching and coaching skills

Legacy

The Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) features the preservation of traditions and continuous adaptation at the same time, in line with the criteria of the given age. Although a lot has changed over the years, its traditions live on, filled with new spirit while opening the windows of the university to the world.

HUSS and its faculty, athletes and alumni are well-known globally for achievements in various areas of the sport profession, and our educators and trainers are respected all around the world. HUSS is the largest, the most comprehensive and the oldest centre for education and training in sport in Hungary with 98 years of history, originally established as the Royal College of Physical Education in 1925.

If one not only wishes to be a great physical education teacher, physiotherapist, coach, sport manager, recreation, human kinesiology or health science expert, but also wishes to pursue a scientific career, HUSS is an ideal choice. This is the only university in Hungary where a PhD degree in Sports Science can be obtained, and HUSS serves as a career incubation space as well as a life-long professional support for our students and alumni.

The coaches of a numerous Olympic, World and European Champions have completed their studies at the university or its predecessors. Amongst our Honorary Doctors, there are outstanding representatives from international sport diplomacy and Sports Science. The university is among those education centres where the International Olympic Committee, Olympic Solidarity cooperates in coach education program with. On a national level the university has a sports policy forming role in close cooperation with all stakeholders of sport and physical activity.

The Fencing Intensive International Coach Program is taught and run exclusively in English. Participants are expected to demonstrate English language proficiency in both verbal and written skills, which is the applicant’s responsibility.

Teaching Staff & Examinations

The best Hungarian modern fencing experts, teaching at HUSS are invited to lecture at Fencing Intensive International Coach Program.

All participants are to meet the requirements of the Fencing Intensive International Coach Program. This will be examined by completing a comprehensive written examination of questions, a practical exam of demonstration of coaching skills as well as pre-determined exams by the HUSS instructors.

Graduates of the program receive "International Fencing Coach Certificate”, issued by HUSS with the support of FIE.
