Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF) and Azerbaijan Sports Academy (ASA) held talks on expanding their cooperation in education and research.

It appears that Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) and the Azerbaijan Sports Academy (ASA) are now moving to concrete actions. This was evidenced by a meeting held on Monday between representatives of the two institutions, following the signing of a five-year memorandum of understanding in January this year expressing their intention to cooperate in several areas.

After the cooperation agreement had been signed, the two institutions jointly submitted an application for funding under the Erasmus+ KA171 mobility programme in February.

During discussions on potential future cooperation, several areas of mutual interest were identified. ASA indicated that it would be pleased to host students through both short-term and long-term mobility programmes, as well as welcome HUSS students and staff to its winter and summer schools. In addition, the academy expressed its openness to hosting researchers in Baku for the implementation of joint research projects.

ASA also showed interest in HUSS’s master's degree programmes, particularly in human kinesiology, biomechanics, and other specialized fields of sport science, and would like to send students to these programmes. At the same time, HUSS invited ASA faculty members to participate in the International Education Week scheduled for October 12–16, 2026.

The parties also discussed coach education, noting that ASA offers coaching programmes in 27 different sports disciplines. Both institutions see opportunities for collaboration in this area as well as in the field of chess.

Another area of cooperation could be a visit by ASA staff to HUSS to learn about the university’s innovative campus solutions. Furthermore, the parties explored the possibility of jointly organizing a sports science conference. HUSS would participate as a co-organizer and contribute speakers and participants to the event.

Finally, ASA extended an invitation to Rector Tamás Sterbenz for an official visit to Baku in September 2026.
