Several departments from Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) represented at the 26th Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), held in Salt Lake City from 26 to 29 May.

At the renowned international conference, Dr habil Tamás Csányi, Head of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Physical Education, Dr habil Zsuzsanna Kneffel and Dr habil Martina Uvacsek, associate professors at the Department of Health Sciences and Sports Medicine, and PhD student Bernadett Wágner contributed with poster presentations, while Dr Tibor Hortobágyi, research professor at the Department of Kinesiology, took part in committee work. The four-day event addressed current issues in sport science and health sciences in numerous thematic sessions. Detailed scientific report will be published in the upcoming issue of the Hungarian Review of Sport Science.

It is particularly noteworthy that, after 17 years, the ACSM has issued a new position stand and recommendations on the importance of resistance training, based on 137 systematic reviews and data from more than 30,000 participants. The new guideline summarises the effects of resistance training on muscle strength, muscle mass, performance and physical function. Of special relevance to this news is that the new guideline builds in part on previously published meta-analyses by Tibor Hortobágyi as well as by and Zsuzsanna Kneffel.
