The Kazakh National University of Sports hopes to build on HUSS’s expertise

The Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) and the Kazakh National University of Sports (KNUS) have signed a cooperation agreement. Beyond student and faculty exchange programs, the parties aim to establish a long-term strategic partnership. An important element of the agreement is that the Kazakh institution intends to develop its academic staff by relying on HUSS’s outstanding expertise.

HUSS Rector Professor Tamás Sterbenz and Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation Professor Zsolt Radák met with Tursynzada Kuangaliyeva, Rector of KNUS, and Dr Raikhan Beisenova, Director of the Department of Strategy and Sustainable Development at HUSS. KNUS is a similarly sized, highly ambitious and promising higher education institution.

The purpose of the visit was for the parties to sign a cooperation agreement covering several areas and to discuss the details of future collaboration. The event was also attended by International Director Denissza Blanár and International Relations Coordinator Györgyi Koppa.

Founded three years ago, the Kazakh university trains coaches, wellness instructors, physical education teachers, sports managers, rehabilitation specialists, and data analysts, while also engaging in e-sports education. The institution offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs, with the latter two also available in English. Its Institute of Sports Science and Innovation focuses on research areas including sports training, biomechanics, physiology, and sports medicine.

The Kazakh guests explained that the university operates unique, world-class sports infrastructure, including a swimming pool, multifunctional training hall, football pitch, and continuously expanding campus facilities, along with significant dormitory capacity.

The discussions centred on the fact that the ambitious, newly established Kazakh sports university views HUSS as a professional centre with substantial experience in sports education and training. The KNUS leadership specifically wants its lecturers and specialists to participate in continuing education, methodological, and professional programs at HUSS so they can apply the acquired knowledge within their own institution.

The partnership therefore goes beyond traditional student and faculty exchange programs. In the long term, the Kazakh institution sees HUSS as a strategic partner and intends to develop its own teaching staff by building on HUSS’s outstanding expertise in sports science and professional training.

The partnership is already producing active professional cooperation in the short term as well. This year, 25 KNUS students and two lecturers will join HUSS’s summer university program, the central topic of which is the physiology of peak performance. Students will participate online, while lecturers will attend in person. In addition, the Kazakh side invited Rector Tamás Sterbenz to its graduation ceremony in early July.

By signing the cooperation agreement, the parties made it clear that they aim to establish a long-term strategic relationship in which HUSS can play a role not only as a partner, but also as a defining centre of professional expertise in the development of sports higher education in Central Asia.
